When I am in the mood for a sad song, I tend to listen to one of the songs from the musical Wicked. I saw the show just before I left London and especially For Good brings tears to my eyes every time. Then yesterday this song came up, which I don't actually recall but it's sad, too. And sometimes sad is good.

bluebonnets
"...
Like bluebonnets in the spring we're only here for a little while
It's beautiful and bittersweet so make the most of every mile
So pack light and love heavy give it all your heart and soul
So in the end you won't regret one thing
Life is like bluebonnets in the spring

Nacht der blauen Wunder II
Another year has passed. And I'm not sure how I feel about it...
Rosenheim was organizing once again the Nacht der blauen Wunder. Number of venues had increased from 13 to 15. 5 half hour gigs, starting at 8:30pm, finishing at 1am. Contrary to last year, temperatures were very mild.
We listened to some good music, had a nice chat and I only ran into one of my ex colleagues, of course the one I had also bumped into last year. Small world... The audience was overall relatively old - older than me! And in the last bar, some drunken middle aged men were behaving rather annoyingly. Which - together with the crowds in tiny venues and the noise - reminded me why I don't go clubbing anymore...

More foxes
I've been making an effort to tidy a bit in anticipation of my friends' visit. And while tidying, I came across my ticket for the play First Love is the Revolution, which I went to see in London during my visit in early November: according to the Soho Theatre 'a viciously funny new play about love, lust and foxes'.
Pretty accurate synopsis, I'd say. Nevertheless, it came as a little surprise to us all, when we realized that the (human) actors were indeed playing animals. As well as humans. It was bonkers and brilliant and indeed very funny. I especially loved the chickens :-)
In short: boy of a broken home falls in love with a fox and said girl fox falls in love with boy. Beautiful, right?
The next night, we went to see Green Day's musical American Idiot. I keep referring to them as Green Park, which gives you an indication of how big a fan I am. I did grow up with them though and thought it sounded like a cool thing. And it was. We had great seats (and thanks to Time Out, a bargain, too) and the music was played live and was pumping (not sure that's a cool thing to say...). Story was a bit thin. I really enjoyed it.

Die Nacht der blauen Wunder
€12, 13 bars, 5 gigs - it was all happening in Rosenheim city centre last night.
You buy a wristband in the first venue you go to and then get into all other participating venues. Each band was playing a 30 minute set. Followed by 30 minutes during which you could make your way to the next venue.
With the weather being rather cold these days - or really just what you'd expect in autumn - I was tempted to stay in, watching DVDs, wrapped in a blanket on my sofa. But then I figured I should really get my ass out on one of these rare occasions, that something is happening here! And it was a really good night in the end. Not yet sure I experienced any blue miracles. But who knows, it might reveal itself eventually.

tears
I am not entirely sure what I am doing with my free time - I feel I haven't really explored my new surroundings at all in these past three months.
Another bank holiday fell on a weekend this year... So with everything closed here in Germany, I ventured across the border to Kufstein yesterday. And what a beautiful day it was! Which ended with listening to Madison Violet, a Canadian band. Strangely there was seating in the rather small venue. A bit of dancing would have been nice. But then again, my back appreciated being able to sit!
And no, I had never heard of them before. I only came across them when googling what to do. I especially liked the songs where Lisa was playing the violin. Of course I do not remember any song titles or lyrics...

I have been changed for good
...it well may be
that we will never meet again
in this lifetime
so let me say before we part
so much of me
is made of what I learned from you
you'll be with me
like a hand-print on my heart
and now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
by being my friend...
More than a year ago, I posted other parts of the lyrics of the For Good song from Wicked. And I have to admit that I cannot remember a) how I came across the song nor b) who I had in mind when writing it.
I used the theatre voucher I got for one of my work projects to finally go and see Wicked at the Apollo theatre in London (previously an Art deco cinema) yesterday. I did like a number of their songs, absolutely loved their costumes and overall enjoyed the show. But I have to say it didn't quite stand up to all the positive comments I had heard. Maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind either.
And yes, as you may imagine, a number of the songs made me cry. Standard really. And the above lyrics seem especially poignant, of course.

Circolombia
Another great Time Out deal: tickets to see Circolombia at the Camden Roundhouse. A breathtaking show with amazing acrobatics and great, pumping music. The human body is capable of quite astonishing things. Watching this always make me ashamed that I don't look after myself better.
Dinner beforehand was a little disappointing. The menu at the Cuban looked very promising and thanks to the tastecard it was a bargain. But my chilli beef was rather chewy and the tortilla shell wasn't crispy at all. Then again, the dinner company was lovely :-)

Let's hug it out
One of the many reasons I love London!
And yes, whoever I told that I was going to this event looked at me as if I was a little mad... It was a brilliant experience. Even if slightly unsettling at times. Just listening to the music and singing while blindfolded was pretty special. Due to the accoustics, the room seemed much bigger than it was. I would have liked to see my singer who hugged me, but we didn't get to meet them afterwards. Pity.

Acoustic East
Two free tickets thanks to my Time out card: Acoustic East at The Proud Archivist - a really cool venue near Haggerston Overground station in North London and right on the canal.
Last Thursday, the following artists were on:
I really liked Kirsty's voice. Admittedly, I spent most time chatting away to A... which is always lovely :-)

Ahhhhh, one of those days... I had to cancel my evening plans, as I simply wasn't able to leave the office on time. Then again with just ~two weeks until our main event, that's not really surprising.
I've just been to the gym though (second time this week even!!!) and am feeling much better. And tomorrow is another day. Staff pizza lunch is in the diary - that's a start!
It's going to be fine, right?
