World Press Photo Exhibition at the Southbank Centre

The World Press Photo is the premier annual international competition in press photography and is in its 55th year. This free exhibition can be seen at the Southbank Centre until 27 November.

Photos include pictures taken during the fighting in Egypt and Libya, as well as photos of the aftermath of the horrific earthquake in Japan.

While the photos are of outstanding quality, the subject matter of most also make them rather disturbing and depressing. They act as a reminder of all that is going on around the globe.

I felt rather guilty and embarrassed on how quickly I had  blocked most of these events out of my mind. And also incredibly lucky and grateful not having had to experience any such hardship.
