Less than a month before the Olympics are starting. And London is doing its best to prepare Londoners for the chaos and crowds that will descend on the city. Boris [Johnson - the major, to those who don't know] is pitching in and has recorded a number of messages for the people. These are now being played at tube and DLR stations. He is primarily inviting people to visit the website GetAheadOfTheGames which provides 'Olympic Travel Advice'.
I heard it for the first time last week, and actually thought somebody was taking the piss... The voice sounded real enough - not surprisingly, as it is indeed Boris.
To be honest, I'm not sure how useful the website will be. I expect most stations to be over-crowded and it will generally be a pain to get anywhere. Especially during rush hour. Not sure whether the first tourists have already arrived, but the DLR was particularly crowded on Wednesday. Even an hour after my usual home-time.
I would also like to thank the DLR 'driver' [they are not really driving it - so not sure what exactly they are meant to do], who decided to close the doors, while people were still getting off. Well done indeed. If that's what's going to happen during the games (in order to keep to timetables??? or maybe just to be annoying), I predict a number of bruised arms and legs. And a lot of anger.
