29 February: The day women are "allowed" to propose to their men. I don't think I had ever come accross this tradition in Germany and having googled it tonight it does indeed seem much more widespread in the UK.
If the man doesn't accept the proposal, he has to buy her 12 pair of gloves - this will allow her to hide her embarrassment of not having an engagement ring. Why 12 pairs I wonder... And why have men not come up with a penalty for women who refuse their proposal?
While there is a 29th day in every other month, I think it still looks weird or just plain wrong to see it written down: 29 February. Is that just me?
