... is playing at the
National Theatre with Chiwetel Ejifor (
from 12 years a slave) in the title role. The story is based
on a late 15th century morality play. I'd say the story is particularly 'original' - the theme of a man being faced with death and being summoned by God. He desperately looks for people to accompany him to give witness to his life, which seems to lack good deeds. Not only does he realize that he is essentially along but also that all his fortune is worth nothing when it comes to death.
The staging is absolutely amazing though and I would highly recommend it! I got a ticket for just £15 and the play is still on until August - go and see it if you can.
Chiwetel enters the stage lowered down on a harness, it rains on stage, God is a cleaner, there is a tramp and beautiful music. Overall very touching and a good reminder about what matters and what doesn't in life.
